Welcome to The Daily Post! As the name suggests, this portion of the website is updated daily (right after school) and is designed for you to be able to access what was covered in class, from home. It's a great resource for last minute updates or if you are ever absent or find yourself confused about any specifics about homework, reading, due dates, vocab, etc.

Update: Monday 4/26...last Sub Day
Sun, Apr 25 2010 06:45
*I can't believe it, but it looks like you guys/gals have 1 more day on your own. Truth be told, I'm feeling a lot better, but the doctor's ordered 1 more day. Considering my voice is completely gone and that I am still battling a wicked cough and hacking up all sorts of nasty stuff, 1 more day is probably a good thing. But, rest assured, the plan is to be back tomorrow...I really can't see anything getting in the way.
So here's where we stand for today:
LA 10 Honors
-You should be read through chapter 4 (including all of the letters) and have that batch of guiding questions finished and ready to be turned in. The sub is going to collect these at the beginning of the period.
-From there, the plan is basically the same as Thurs-Fri, just with the next batch of chapters and questions. So, spend today working your way through chapters 5-7. The sub should have copies of the guiding questions (click here) ready to go.
-This round of questions and reading is actually going to be due on Wed. The plan is to get back into the swing of things tomorrow and actually address the novel the way it should be as a class.
-If you finish early, don't be a distraction.
Creative Writing
-For you folks, things are a bit tricky...I really need you to help me make today work.
You've essentially written this entire piece on your own and I sincerely hope you used last week wisely and have a pretty-solid draft ready to go at the start of class today. If you don't...you wasted a whole lot of time. Let's hope that's not the case. For today, here's what needs to happen:
-Step 1: Get out your as-perfect-as-possible draft.
-Step 2: Swap with someone...but only if they have a draft to give you. No draft, no swapping. This person can not be the individual you are writing about.
-Step 3: At the top of their paper, write: "edited by (your name)."
-Step 4: Spend the period doing some serious editing of the draft you just received. We've done this before and most of you took it fairly seriously. Remember, edit diligently and thoughtfully. Ask questions, encourage them to explore more, be critical, be supportive, etc. Don't be that person that spends 15 minutes, jots a couple of notes, and then hands it back with essentially no useful feedback.
-Step 5: When you are done, turn it into the sub. This is how you are getting points for both having a draft ready to go and for today's editing. I'll hand these back to you first thing tomorrow.
-If, for some reason, you find yourself not having a draft ready to go today (and therefore, unable to edit)...I don't know what to tell you other than the fact that you better figure it out by the time I get back tomorrow.
-Again, I really need you folks to help me make this work. Be productive, help people out who need an editor, help the sub out...help me out. If you finish early, don't be a distraction.

Update: Friday 4/23...another sub day
Thu, Apr 22 2010 05:52
Sorry to leave you guys and gals hangin' once again, but the doctor told me I absolutely can't be around anyone for a few more days. So, it looks like you've got another day with a sub...hopefully this is the last one. This whole sick thing is really not that enjoyable and I'm truly hoping that I'll be back with you for Monday. The plan is essentially the same as Thursday's:
LA 10 Honors
-No vocab today...writing this Daily Post is taking way too much out of me as it is. There's just no way I can put in the hour or two to put one together...sorry to disappoint. We'll get back on track next Friday
-The plan for today is for you folks to continue working your way through letters 1-4 and chapters 1-4. Some of you might finish early, some might be done...regardless, help the sub out and stay focused and on task today. Same rules apply about checking out books (however, if you absolutely need one, grab one and jot your name/number down on a piece of scratch paper and give it to the sub...there's more books in the low cabinets behind the boxes). Click here for an e-copy and here for the guiding questions.
Creative Writing
-OK guys/gals, today is basically just a repeat of the past 2 days. After checking in with the sub, head over to lab 304 and use today to get as far as you can on your partner/picture piece. My guess is that some of you might be getting close to having a working draft you feel pretty solid about. Many of you, though, might find yourself needing to spend a little bit of time on this draft this weekend. If you finish early (or already at a spot you are calling "done"), try to stay focused in the lab--don't be a distraction. On Monday, you'll need to come to class with a printed (as-complete-as-possible) copy of your piece--you should definitely have solid evidence that you worked diligently for 2.5 days.

Once again, I'm out...the fever just isn't getting any better...in fact, it's getting a bit worse. Nonetheless, we are going to make this work. All of my classes have assignments or reading that they can work independently on. Use today to get a good jump on what you need to get done. Here's the plan:
LA 10 Honors
-Today you guys are really going to start Frankenstein. In retrospect, this probably would have worked yesterday...but hey, I wasn't thinking that clearly. If you need a book, grab one (however, make sure it stays here when you leave...we'll check 'em out when I get back).
-Start the novel and answer the guiding questions (there should be copies ready to go...or click here)
-You need to be through chapter 4 for Monday. Click here for an electronic copy.
-Spend the whole period working diligently on this...it'll take you a while.
Creative Writing
-The big news is that your Fruit Journals are due today...if they aren't quite up to where you want it to be, I'd take care of it a.s.a.p...by like, tonight, when I plan on sitting down and looking at them.
-Other than that, the plan is pretty much the same as yesterday. After checking in with the sub, head over to lab 304 and continue working on your partner/picture piece. After a full day in the lab, everyone should (hopefully) have a decent start.
-Please, please, please work diligently in the lab...use this time to get some work done.
-If for some reason you were gone earlier in the week and are finding yourself in the predicament of not having a picture, check my desk (there's a file somewhere on it with pictures)

You may have noticed that I am gone...
Sun, Apr 18 2010 09:09
Well, it looks like whatever I've caught hasn't let up. Fever, cough, sore throat, headaches....things took a serious downhill plummet over the weekend. I'm thinking it's probably scurvy, or malaria, or tuberculosis, or maybe all three combined...or maybe just a nasty flu bug I caught from one of you. Nonetheless, I'm definitely out for the day with the hope of being back tomorrow.
So, I figured I'd use the website as a way to keep things simple for everyone and post everything that needs to get done. Listed below (under today's post), is the official plan of exactly what needs to happen. Please take today seriously, help the sub out, and prove to me that I can trust you not to take advantage of situations like this.
Be sure to check the website tonight if any plans change for tomorrow.
As always, be creative, be mature, be brilliant...and don't end up on a list.
Thanks y'all,
-Goldhammer

* sub day, see note above. See below for today's plan.
LA 10 Honors
-Obviously, we've got to postpone our start of Frankenstein. We'll dive in as soon as I get back (hopefully tomorrow). The plan for today, though, is relatively simple. You folks are going to try your hand at a different style vocab quiz (don't worry you know the words) and then spend the rest of the period watching The Simpsons spin on Lord of the Flies. Here's what you need to do:
-Help the sub pass out the quizzes. Read the instructions. Take the quiz, do your best. This quiz will count. Please treat this like any other quiz...no talking, etc. When you are finished, help the sub collect 'em.
-When everyone is done, designate 1 person to set up the film. I lent out my copy, so we are going to try our luck streaming this over the web (it worked last year). All you need to do is click here, adjust the volume, lights, etc. and let it run.
-If the film finishes early (or does not work), use the period to take care of other assignments/homework. Please stay focused and please be mature.
Creative Writing
-For you guys, this actually works out just fine. Today, we are going to continue with the normal plan. Here's what you need to do.
-Get out your character sketch on your partner. This was due today. It will be turned in (along with today's assignment) at the end of the period.
-Just like we've done a couple times before, today you are going to be playing with the idea of an "opposite character." You've come to class today with a well thought-out character sketch of your partner. Now, you need to create the opposite. Just like before, the idea here is not to be funny--rather, it is for you to show and further help develop your complex understanding of your character. So, take your character/partner and spend the hour developing a new character sketch on the opposite version of him/her. This should be approx 1-2 pages and to do it well should take you most of the period.
-When you finish, staple them both together and put them in the 4th period basket by the door. This assignment is due by the end of the period.
