THE DAILY POST

Welcome to The Daily Post! As the name suggests, this portion of the website is updated daily (right after school) and is designed for you to be able to access what was covered in class, from home. It's a great resource for last minute updates or if you are ever absent or find yourself confused about any specifics about homework, reading, due dates, vocab, etc.

Just consider it one more thing I do to make your life a bit easier...

-Discussed yesterday's Antigone/MLK essay and surveyed the different approaches folks took with it. Went over the plan for tomorrow (actually doing some scoring)

Creative Writing
-No journals today...went straight to the lab
-Worked on stolen dialogues. At this point you should have your original notes from your conversation (these need to be legible and ready to be handed off tomorrow).
-In the lab today, we worked on adding narration and description to your stolen conversation. The task is to simply tell the "real" version as accurately as possible, filling in the missing details, and punctuating everything correctly.

HW:
-Finish up today's stolen dialogue work...this will be checked off for points tomorrow.
-Outside reading

-Took a 15min interlude and worked on your 1-7 chunks

Tuesday 5/26

LA 10 Honors
-Worked on an in-class essay connecting Antigone and MLK's Letter to a Birmingham Jail. Essay took the entire hour and was turned in at the end of the period.
-We will discuss the essay + the connections tomorrow in class. Students who were gone for fieldtrips should have come after school to make up the essay (or, at the very least...swung by to figure out when it will be made up)

-Bring in your Lit Books, novels, etc.



Creative Writing
-Journals: "I've been looking for one of those for years" (must contain dialogue + 2 characters)
-Due: Stolen Dialogue (checked off for points)
-Went over the rules for dialogue and read some samples from TKM, Catcher, and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay

-Checked in on this week's Headline work
-Explained the "Stolen Dialogue" assignment for this weekend...which is: eavesdrop on a conversation, do your best to copy it down word-for-word, and be sure not to get caught
-Spent some time finishing up the Headline pieces...turned both of these in at the start of class

-Tomorrow will be a sub day, be prepared to read Episode 1 and Ode 1 out loud, in class. People will need to volunteer to read...be one of them.

-Be prepared for tomorrow...you'll be with the sub and are expected to be silent and working on your paragraphs (hopefully your intro and conclusions) for the entire period. Make sure you have all of your materials ready to go.

Tuesday 5/12

LA 10 Honors
-Finished up notes on Greek Theater...watched a couple of quick youtube videos on history, some samples, etc.
-Went through and broke down the structure of Oedipus (Prologos, Parados, Episodes, Odes, Exodus, etc.)
-Assigned roles and began reading. Got through the Prologos.

HW:
-Strophe x Antistrophe breakdown of the Parados...just summarize the main ideas of each stanza



Creative Writing

-Journals: "eggs"
-Checked in on character development from yesterday
-Handed out "conflicts/issues" to add to your character...spent some time in class brainstorming and doing a little pre-writing

-Spent some time going over the new changes to the current MLA format, made sure our citations are looking good and explained how to do parenthetical references for electronic sources

Remember, in order to receive a grade on either your Romeo and Juliet essay (LA 9) or your Frankenstein essay (LA 10h), this must be done. You'll have until Wednesday to get this in....spread the word.

Just wanted to thank everyone for hanging in there the last 2 weeks. I will definitely be back on Monday...make sure you have everything turned-in that needs to be and everything from the weekend ready to go at the start of class.
