THE DAILY POST

Welcome to The Daily Post! As the name suggests, this portion of the website is updated daily (right after school) and is designed for you to be able to access what was covered in class, from home. It's a great resource for last minute updates or if you are ever absent or find yourself confused about any specifics about homework, reading, due dates, vocab, etc.

Just consider it one more thing I do to make your life a bit easier...

-Went over the novel's use of dialect...looked at some other samples
-Broke down some of Hurston's "rules" for black vernacular

Monday 1/26

LA 10 Honors

-Had a big conversation about Themes (what the word means and what the themes of All Quiet actually are)

-Really, it is up to you to decide how much shaping you need to get done tonight. Tomorrow is a work day. A fully shaped essay (Intro, Body Paragraphs, Conclusion) is due on Friday....if I were you, I'd try to space out some of the workload.

-Due: 6-word stories...did some sharing of these
-Introduced the idea of Lit Riffs
-Read 2 samples: "Aluminum" and "I Shot the Sheriff" (also listened to the corresponding songs)

-Briefly discussed the inaugural poem (also watched Angelou's poem from Clinton)
-6-word stories...discussed the tradition (Hemmingway was the first: For sale. Baby shoes. Never worn.) and worked on our own.

-11 6-word stories for tomorrow (aim for about 3 personal, 3 real, and 3 fictional)

-Quickly broke into groups to go over the highlight's from last night's reading
-Did a comparison of Gene and Finny's character thus far
-Opened up the conversation to discuss the big topics from the first 3 chapters

-Read chapters 4-5 (be ready for discussion tomorrow...mark passages, etc.)

A Couple of Quick Reminders for Monday

LA 10 Honors
-You should be done (or extremely close) to finishing your outside reading book. Bring your copy to class tomorrow as we will begin working with them in class. Be prepared to be an expert on it.
-We will discuss the JC essays that were turned into turnitin.com before break...I'll have a letter for you tomorrow. There will be a couple of days for some revisions.
-If you haven't done your speech recitation, tomorrow is your last day...that's it.
-We will be starting a new novel this week...be prepared to get busy...you will be juggling multiple assignments at once.


Creative Writing
-You have a complete draft of your character/conflict/starting point assignment due at the start of class.
-You should be in the middle (or done!) with your outside reading book. Bring your actual copy to class...I am going to give you points for actually having it.
-Floodplain is (finally) done.
